My daughter and I went to Nashville for a class at the end of July. She wanted to go to Thistle Farms because she knew that they helped women escape their dangerous lives of prostitution, sex trafficking, abuse and addiction. I had already been wondering if I could use their products at Bloom because I definitely want to support women in recovery from emotional and physical trauma.
We had lunch there. It was truly lovely, such a great experience. Top-notch. Good food, lovely atmosphere… It was almost sacred.
And I literally wanted to weep several times while we were there. As a matter of fact, even a few other times that day. But I didn’t. I sucked it up and pretended to be normal (yeah right, lol).
Haylee mentioned a little later that she felt like crying when we were there. I found it strange and comforting that we both felt that way, like it confirmed something about the authenticity of their mission.
Maybe we were tired. Travel can be hard. Maybe we were hormonal. It’s possible- we are lady people.
Or maybe because places like Thistle Farms matter.
Maybe because all of us really do want to support other women who are struggling, because we know a little about our own struggles. Maybe we want to support women who didn’t have the opportunities for stability that a lot of us have had in our lives. I know I do.
And I can’t tell you how much rage I feel at the victimization of other human beings- of all genders, shapes and sizes. It’s easy to feel helpless in our daily lives. I mean, what can we really do every day to change the world? For most of us, not a lot. For most of us, though, we can do small things every day that add up. Things that can change the world.
And that’s why I’ve put in my first order with Thistle Farms.
Because in a weird way, I get to spread love on all my people (you know- with the massage that comes with your facial services). And I get to offer their products to my clients so they can help support these women as well.
All that stuff is truly weep-worthy, and I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to support this business with my business.
